USA: Best Vacations for Families with Teens –Try Whitewater. Enjoying vacation time during teenage years can be tricky. Assuming you can negotiate work schedules and assorted practice schedules to fit with social calendars, and school calendars then there is still what, where, and why. Because I know no two families are alike there is really no such thing as one-size-fits-all “best” vacation idea but I can think of several very good ideas if your vacation plans include one or more teens.
Old familiar family vacation spots may still be the perfect fit (some teens do not like surprises) or you may hear “not again” meaning it’s time for plan B.
Plan B – Go Active. If the goal is to have fun and share time with your teens but you are stumped put on your active pants, it will make Thanksgiving dinner conversation so much more interesting. My first suggestion is almost always whitewater – get soaked on purpose.
It’s hard to beat a whitewater trip for wet and wild, uncomplicated vacation fun. Show up, suit up, load up, and let the fun begin. ACE Adventure in West Virginia offers day trips on the New and Gauley rivers where “surfing” the river cannot be beat. Back at the resort complex there’s plenty of additional activities including ziplining. In Idaho Eco Family Adventures runs the thrilling Middle Salmon River with a mix of adrenaline pumping rapids, such as Salmon Falls, and Big Mallard, and long, calm pools framed by wilderness. Professional River Runners in Maine offer family fun on four rivers – Kennebec River, Dead River, Hudson River, and the heart pumping Penobscot River. They have created a series of all-inclusive whitewater rafting packages which are very family friendly – hint checkout their five – bedroom big house.
